Notes for Jane Hunt
Enumerated in the house next door to Edward Bothwell the stone mason in 1850 & next door to George Bothwell the shoemaker in 1860..

In her will (dated 6/26/1878), she designates that she is to be burried in Union cemetery next to her first Husband, James Bothwell, and alongside her youngest son, William Houston Bothwell and the bulk of her estate to her other two sons, Henry and James Bothwell, and to her brothers, Jeremiah Hunt, William Gordon Forman, and David Hunt. She bequeathed $20,000 to Jeremiah, specified $500 to be spent on a monument for Her, James, & William, and numberous other good sized amounts. Names her current husband as James Forsythe.

According to Union Dale Cemetery, all three are buried in the same area in the cemetery: Lot 16, Range 1, Section C, Division 1, but there are no monuments listed for Jane or William.

In his will (dated 9/8/1889), he names the following:
Wife: Sarah Ellen Bothwell.
Children: Lettie Ellen Bothwell, George R. Bothwell, James F. Bothwell, Frank Reid Bothwell, Sarah Eliza Bothwell, Henry Willard Bothwell, and Charles Earle Bothwell.

He also provided that if Lettie “should ever inter-marry” John Long, she shall “forfeit her heirship to all or any part of my Estate Real or Personal and her share shall then revert equally to the rest of my surviving heirs.” (Lettie & John Long were 2nd cousins).

He filed for divorce Dec. 7, 1897 alleging infidelity. She countersued charging extreme cruelty. After expensive proceedings, they reached an out of court settlement and agreed to a legal separation and on Feb. 25, 1898, Judge Allen in Los Angeles dismissed both cases.By august, he had apparently not lived up to some of the terms and she filed a new case. Divorce granted Jan. 5, 1899
