Was a Private in the MS 22 INF, Co. G during Civil War. Also served in MS 28th Cav. Co. A. Source: USNPS Civil War Archives/Texas Civil War Archives. Wife applied for Civil War Pension, #34360, Williamson Co. TX. Several references to Caswell as Dr., both by his wife and several others who knew him well, however no documentation attesting to his MD. Bride was 14 yoa when they eloped to Georgia.
