Notes for William Frank “Billie” Correll
Billie Frank “Bill” Correll, died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Ponca City. He was 72 years old.
A graveside service will be held at the Odd Fellows Cemetery on Wednesday, May 19th at 11 a.m. A eulogy will be delivered by Bill’s son. Arrangements are under the direction of the Trout Funeral Home.
Bill was born Jan. 2, 1927, in Burbank, the son of Ella Morris and Loren Correll. He spent his early years in Oklahoma, and at age 17 joined the U.S. Navy. The U.S. Navy became Bill’s 22-year career, which included service in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Most of Bill’s service was with the Navy’s aviation branch assigned to aircraft carriers in the South Pacific. During his career he was promoted to the rank of Chief Petty Officer (ADRC).
On Sept. 23, 1951, Bill married Juanita Bothwell of Ponca City. They made their home in Southern California during Bill’s military career. Upon retirement in 1971 from the Navy, the couple returned with their children to Ponca City and made their home.
Bill is survived by his wife, Juanita; daughter Terrie Muth of Palm Desert, Calif.; son Steven F. Correll of Seattle, Wash.; his sister, Margaret Long and brother Loren “Junior” Correll, both of Ponca City. Other survivors include his nephews Bill Correll, Steve Correll and Rusty Morris, all of Ponca City; his nieces Mary Frances McClaskey of Texas, Janet Ledbetter of Pryor, Cheryl Knapp of Texas, and Carol Kincheloe of Blackwell; and his uncles, Melvin, Tyner, Sye and Lew Morris. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Sonny Morris.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Ponca City, 1904 North Union, Suite 103, Ponca City, OK 74601, or St. Joseph’s Cancer Center, c/o Susan, 609 Virginia, Avenue, Ponca City, OK 74601.
