Notes for Roy Ackerman (Child 2)
Lt. Roy A. Bothwell, USN, killed when the naval patrol boat Tampa (formerly CGC Miami) was sunk by torpedo Sept. 26, 1918, off the coast of England in the Bristol Channel while escorting a convoy. All 118 aboard were lost. Originally was in the US Revenue Cutter Service (USCG).

On Dec. 19, 1919, the US Navy’s Eagle-class patrol craft PE-21 was transferred to the Coastguard and recommissioned the USCGC Bothwell in honor of Lt. Cmdr Bothwell, who died when the Tampa was torpodoed off the coast of England in 1918. It served until 1923 and was stationed in San Diego, CA.

There was a Lt. Roy Ackerman Bothwell serving in the USCG on the west coast in 1911-12 where he served on the cutters Rush & Thetis in the Washington state, Alaska and Hawaii.
