Notes for Mary Gillanders
There are connections between the Gillanders families and the Bothwell families of Co. Monaghan which hint that the lines of Bothwell-Gillanders and Bothwell-Crawford are linked.
Research notes for Mary Gillanders
The writing on the death register is very difficult to read, not absolutely certain of the information extracted from the register. It appears the individual believed to be Mary was married at the time of her death, but no subsequent death register has been found for Henry in Ireland.
Notes for Edward (Child 1)
Edward’s will names his wife, Mary, George R. Bothwell (nephew?), and Edward’s sister, Mary Pogue. He also named two nephews, E. H. Bothwell (a son of George R.) and Edward Pogue.
In 1870 and 1880 census, a George Bothwell is enumerated with Edward & Mary. It is likely this is actually their nephew, George Robert Bothwell Jr. This is based on the wording of Edward’s will. He makes bequests to George R. Bothwell but does not identify him as his son and leaves some of the bequests up to the discretion of his widow.
In 1850 Census, enumerated next door to Jane Bothwell (30) & three children — Henry (9), James (7), & William (5), all 3 born in Pennsylvania.
Notes for David Laom (Child 2)
His will (7/12/1867) left everything to his widow, Jane. No other persons were named in the will.
The marker in Union Dale cemetery is a pillar with the name Bothwell on the base. On one side is the name and dates for David. On another the same information for Jane. The third side contains the inscription: M. E. Borland and the date July 18, 1815. On the fourth side are three names with accompanying years: Frances, 1864; Harry, 1865; and Ella, 1874.
Not sure about the middle name.
Notes for George (Child 3)
1863 appointed to Union Vigilance Committee for 2nd Ward.
In 1868 was on a committee for the 2nd ward of the RepublicanExecutive Committee of Allegheny City.
In 1868 seriously injured in a political riot in Allegheny City, evendually was charged with aggravated and felonious assault and battery. I was unable to locate an article that included the disposition of the charges.
Also enumerated with him in 1860 was a female named Lizzie Bothwell, age 18, born in Ireland, and a Sarah Carson, age 63, also born in Ireland.
