70, Died Friday
at Local Hospital
John P. Taggart, 70, died Friday at a Bethany hospital following a stroke which occurred about noon at his home in Bethany.
The widely known business man had been the Continental Oil Company agent and station operator in Bethany for 42 years. Few man displayed the energy and application of time to work that he did as he was constantly busy with some project.
Mr. Taggart devoted countless hours of time to community service. He had been president of the Northwest MO State fair board for many years and made his services available for any job that needed to be done to keep the fair grounds in shape and the fair operating. He was a member of the Bethany city council, representing the West Ward, and was chairman of the water, sewer and gas department committee of the city. He also was a member of the city planning committee, the Odd Fellows lodge and the First Baptist church of Bethany.
Survivors include his wife, Lena, of the home in Bethany, two daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Weathers, North Kansas City and Miss Rosemary Taggart, Sierra Madre, Calif.; a son, Bill Taggart, Washington, D.C.; two grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs Esther Klindt, Bethany.
Services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist church in Bethany, with the Rev. James Grubbs officiating. Burial was in Antioch cemetery, southeast of Bethany. Odd Fellow rites were conducted.
