During Civil War he enlisted in Company H. 53rd O.V.V. on November 25, 1861. Before he was sixteen years of age was in the Battle of Shiloh, or Pittsburg Landing and in the battle he was wounded in the right leg. He mustered out after 3 years and nine months of service and while in the war participated in sixty-seven engagements.
E. M. Hill came to Harrison County in 1872 and engaged in farming and returned to Virginia in 1888 where he married , having known his wife from childhood. He was Township Assessor of Sugar Creek Township, Harrison Co., MO, and a member of G. A. R. at Bethany, MO. He was retired by 1921 but still had 15 acres of land at Blue Ridge, MO.

--News Item - Bethany Republican Clipper, Bethany, MO.
BETHANY, MO --- Mary Belle Taggart, 86, died Saturday at a Liberty, MO, hospital.
Mrs. Taggart was a retired restaurant operator, a member of the First Christian Church in Bethany, the A.A.R.P., and a former member of the Rebeccah Lodge.
Survivors include three sons, Gordon E. Taggart, Wickenbrg, Ariz., Ferris K. Taggart, Petaluma, Calif., and Jack L. Taggart, Carrollton, Mo.; two daughters, Hildred Glaze, Jamesport, Mo., and Janet Gotschall, Richmond, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Roberson funeral home in Bethany. Burial will be in the Miriam Cemetery, in Bethany.
